The word “Akshardham” means The Divine Abode of God. Akshardham Temple was opened for the darshan of Lord Swaminarayan to the devotees on 6th of November, 2005. It was constructed by Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha, commonly known as BAPS. The temple was been created by His Holiness Shri Pramukh Swami Maharaj. The temple is located near the banks of River Yamuna at New Delhi. This masterpiece of art was built by more than 300,000,000 volunteer hours. Over 8,000 volunteers from across the globe participated to build the temple. The temple is been constructed using carved sandstone and pure marble. Open Lush Green Gardens, Water Fountains, Laser Shows at night make the temple more beautiful. There are various exhibitions on the life of Lord Swaminarayan, Hinduism, Teachings of the life of Swaminarayan, prayers, compassion and non-violence too.
